Sainsbury’s is UK’s first supermarket to stock 100% plant-based BBQ “Ribz”

Sainsbury’s customers can get their hands on the first-of-their-kind vegan ribz from Wednesday 15 th May, in stores nationwide. Priced at £4, Plant Power’s® Sweet ‘n’ Smoky Ribz are made with tempeh. Sainsbury’s today announces that it will be the UK’s first supermarket to stock 100% plant-based, BBQ “Ribz”, as Brits begin to gear up for BBQ season.Made using tempeh and a subtly sweet, smoky sauce, the Sweet ‘n’ Smoky Veggie Ribz by Plant Power® are suitable for vegans, making them a must-have at this year’s summer spread. What’s more, the ribz not only satisfy the taste buds, but have other benefits, including being a source of fibre, and high in protein.Originating from Indonesia, the tempeh used in Plant Power’s® BBQ Ribz is made by fermenting whole beans – traditionally soya – with a live culture, giving it a deliciously meaty texture. Taking only 15 minutes to perfect on the barbecue, the ribz are a super option for any speedy yet satisfying supper this summer.The latest addition to Sainsbury’s plant-based product offering comes as a response to soaring customer demand. Sainsbury’s has seen an 24% increase in customers searching for vegan products online, and a 65% increase in sales of plant-based products year-on-year, as customers increasingly consider a vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian lifestyle.
