Okja (oak-jah) is a quality-centred, plant-based South African bakery, originally founded by David Avron Chait in Cape Town. They are known for their unique, sustainable, homemade speciality bakes and beverages. The bakery’s original London branch is located in the historically Jewish East End district- making it the perfect spot for a Jewish Vegan day out!
Their handmade products are baked freshly from homemade ingredients- making this bakery an environmentally and health conscious choice. Okja’s bakes, spreads, drinks and swirls are made with sustainable, non UPF, plant-based stables which are made in house by hand!
So what’s on the menu? Okja’s homemade speciality swirls are made with layers of thin, laminated pastry with layers of plant-based butter, cream cheese and chocolate spread- all made simply and sustainably by hand fresh in their kitchen. Popular choices include Choco Swirl, Cinna Swirl Pistachio Swirl, almond, vanilla bean and poppy seed. The menu caters for savoury occasions too, with a selection of plant-based sausage, pesto and cheese swirls. Alternatively, Okja offers a variety of thick, gooey cookies cooked freshly in house; popular flavours include Brown Butter, Almond and Double Chocolate Pecan cookies, alongside traditional bakery staples. Thirsty? Grab a beverage from Okja’s summer drinks menu including Coffee Slush, Maple Ceral Matcha and Hojichai!
