50 attend launch of first ever Jewish ‘Green Drinks’, new eco networking event, at the JVS.

50 people gathered at the JVS last week for the launch of Jewish ‘Green Drinks’, a brand new networking event for people involved in the Jewish eco-sphere to meet, and find out what is going on in the community. JVS, together with Shema: The Jewish Environmental Network will host the event quarterly, bringing together individuals from across the community to collaborate on projects and support each other’s work. The event took place at the new JVS, the world’s first Jewish vegan centre in Golders Green. Future meet-ups will be on Wednesday 4th December 2019, Wednesday 4th March 2020, and Wednesday 3rd June 2020. Among the attendees at last week’s event were; Clive Lawton OBE, Founder of Sadeh Farm Talia Chain, representatives from Extinction Rebellion Jews and the Board of Deputies for British Jews, Zack Polanski who is number 3 on the London Assembly List, representing the Green Party, and members of various Eco Synagogues. Lara Balsam, JVS Director said, ‘it was a pleasure to co-host this special event, one we hope will become a real fixture in the communal calendar. Each event will have a special focus / theme, and we welcome suggestions for speakers / activities. Said attendee Lucy Michaels, academic and environmental journalist: “The newly established Green Drinks event at JVS could not have come at a better time to harness the energy of a growing movement of Jewish people involved in all aspects of promoting environmental change. I sat in a small group with a community activist working to ‘green’ her orthodox synagogue, a Green Party activist likely to be elected to the London Assembly next year, a gardener at Sadeh farm and other green professionals. We could immediately see how our work complimented each other and we shared great ideas and contacts.
