Seattle-based cruise company Holland America, which operates 15 cruise ships, is introducing a completely vegetarian menu to its fleet, as well as adding 30 new meat-free dishes to standard dining room menus.

The all-vegetarian menu is made up of 22 vegetarian and vegan dishes which will be available on request at lunch and dinner. Dishes on the new menu include Vietnamese Vegetable Spring Rolls; Curried Vegetable Empanadas; Portobello Mushroom and Chipotle Quesadillas; Sweet and Sour Vegetable Tempura; Baked Cheese Polenta with Mushrooms and Artichoke Hearts; Vegetable Jambalaya; and Grilled Vegetable and Tofu Kebabs.

Holland America’s fleet offer more than 500 cruises a year across all seven continents.

“Many more people are choosing a vegetarian culinary experience, yet the options can be limited,” says Holland America’s executive vice president, Richard Meadows, “By offering a complete vegetarian-only menu and the largest vegetarian selection at sea, we are ensuring that all guests can take part in an exceptional dining experience while cruising with Holland America Line.”

More and more travel companies are improving the experience for vegetarian and vegan holidaymakers and there are now plenty of websites to help discerning travellers find meat-free retreats.
