Last Friday 25th April 2025, we cooked up a seasonal feast inspired by our foraging walk, using lots of fresh finds. The menu included wild garlic, nettle and pea soup. Additionally, butterbean and tomato stew with herby asparagus freekeh, roasted cauliflower with tahini, and a delicious apple and pear crumble for dessert. Massive thanks and shout out to our brilliant volunteers who helped bring it all together.

If you are quick, you can still spot wild garlic in shady woodland spots for a couple more weeks.

We were lucky to be joined by Sean O’Callaghan, better known as Fat Gay Vegan. Sean is a longtime vegan, blogger and community organiser working with Made in Hackney, a food security charity based in Stamford Hill. Sean shared stories about their amazing free vegan cooking classes and masterclasses, which cover everything from Turkish recipes to fermentation. Money raised from the paid sessions helps keep the free classes running.

Sean also highlighted their meal delivery service, which sends out 400 nourishing vegan meals every week to those who need them most. We are buzzing to announce an upcoming collabasterclass between JVS and Made in Hackney. Stay tuned!

Additional opportunities for giving

If you’d like to support the charity, Nivi, founder of Nutok Cheese, is running a half marathon to raise funds. You can donate here.

We shared also about our community garden and food growing project, how you can get involved and details of our fundraiser.
