You might think that cooking broccoli is easy – just boil it in a pan. But some people say that the true flavour and goodness of broccoli only comes out when it’s steamed. If you’ve always disliked broccoli, why not give this simple recipe a try?… You might be pleasantly surprised!
Ingredients
- 1 large broccoli
- 50 ml extra virgin olive oil
- sea salt, to taste
Instructions
- Break/cut the broccoli into small pieces (florets). To avoid unnecessary washing up you can do this directly in the colander – must be metal – which can then be used for the steaming part.
- Run water over the broken broccoli pieces to clean them thoroughly.
- Pour a small amount of water into a saucepan (approx. 3 cm) and bring this to the boil.
- Lower the heat just slightly – the water should still be at the boil – then place the colander on the pan so that it rests on top without water coming through the bottom of the colander. Place a large lid over the colander to cover.
- Steam the broccoli for 4 minutes. This short time ensures the broccoli remains crisp and fresh.
- Place the steamed broccoli in a bowl and drizzle with plenty of olive oil and some coarse sea salt. Be sure to give the broccoli a mix so that the olive oil is spread throughout – it really adds to the flavour.
- Serve immediately.
